The second season of the popular Korean drama will probably feature new characters. We saw Lee Yong-dae, one of the world's best badminton players, in season one, but there are likely to be even more well-known faces to come. Keeping in mind that the story revolves around the brothers' lives, we can assume that more prominent figures will appear in season two. Here are some details about these characters.
Yong-tae
"Racket Boys" is a drama centered around a group of teenage badminton players from Yeong-ja. During their training, they compete against Japanese players and win. Despite their tough competition, they are able to win because of their hard work. Unlike the popular stereotype, "Racket Boys" is more about friendship than competition. It has lessons for every one of us.
Coach Bae, Yoon-dam and Hae-kang train together. During the training for their Jakarta match, they don't gel well, but they eventually come together. Yong-tae's coach, Mr. Hong, has a rivalry with Mr. Bang, and he wants one of the two to be a relay runner. However, Yong-tae insists that the two kids be teammates.
During the draft match, the Yong-tae Racket Boys win, but it's not all smooth sailing. Their coach, Hyeong-Jong, is confused and unsure of how to handle the tension between Yong-tae and Hae-Kang. He tries to be tough but fails. However, he accidentally finds a cigarette outside the gym, which most of the kids think belongs to Yong-tae. Yong-tae asks for help but Coach Bae tries to convince him to back off and let things sort themselves.
Despite the lack of a clear love story, the drama does explore parent-child relationships and the issues that come with them. Yoon-dam's parents display a picture of their son in their bakery, while Woo-chan's military father secretly watches the team's games. The drama is filled with touching moments and heartwarming messages. It's a must-watch for any fan of Korean dramas.
Yong-dam
The Yong-dam racket boys are a group of youngsters who play basketball, badminton and baseball. They lose the Sweet Potato competition, but win the subsequent doubles match against Seoul and Im Seo-hyeon. After losing the Sweet Potato competition, the Racket Boys focus on the Spring competition, where they face the Jeonnam Sports Council. Their coach, Ra Yeong-ja, is the world's best. He also happens to be the mother of one of the boys, Hae-In. He helps the youngsters learn discipline.
In addition to the sports team, the Racket Boys' role in the film's story is to give young people a positive role model, as they learn how to live a fulfilling life while preserving their identity. As they go about their mission, they help villagers and senior citizens. They also learn the secret of living a good life by helping others, which is better than receiving help from others. However, when Park Chan shows up to see Hae-kang, he becomes jealous. Consequently, Hae-in is forced to express her love to him, making Hae-kang jealous. Moreover, the military father also secretly watches the team's matches.
The series also features a young Korean actor, Yoon Hae Kang. Yoon-dam rose to fame after his role in CLOY. In Racket Boys, he played an aspergers kid. His character was narcissistic and conceited, but his expressions were on point. The role was a good example of Yoon-dam's ability to portray a child's feelings.
Hae-kang
In Racket Boys, Hae-kang is a prodigy who turned out to be a baseball player instead of a badminton player. He has lost several games in the past, but the loss spurs him on to compete in the next tournament. The racket boys are trained by world-renowned coach Ra Yeong-ja, who is also Hae-in's mother.
In the 64th National Competition, Hae-kang takes up grueling exercises. He becomes a junior coach and tries to teach young players discipline and sportsmanship. His new skills help him win his doubles and triples matches. He is also a competitor of the Jeonnam Sports Council. This is not the first time the racket boys have lost a match, but they lose two straight sets to them.
The Racket Boys are preparing for a tournament in Japan. They are also preparing for the Olympic Games. They go mountain training and train, which is beneficial for their health. However, Hae-kang becomes jealous when Park Chan shows up to see Se-yoon. He is determined to save his younger sister from the same fate. Meanwhile, the Village Chief calls a brainstorming meeting to come up with new ideas for revitalization. The couple from the city suggests cultivating regional food and using technology to market it. Another solution is to give vacant houses to the townfoon for staying.
The episode opens with a scene from Hae-kang's junior training program from 2016. It merges with the current situation. As a result, the team doesn't have enough money to participate in a tournament, but Coach Bae arranges an advance amount against the funds. However, Yoon Hyeon-jong has too much time to drink and miss the match. He then agrees to find Jeong In-sol and their lost match.
Se-yoon
A new neighbor is moving in. The four Haenam racket boys hurry over to meet him. He wants to join the National Badminton Team. But he has some reservations. The new neighborhood is not easy and the people there are not very accepting of them. But when they meet Mr. Hong, he becomes their friend. Afterwards, the two start dating. The four friends are surprised when Mr. Hong proposes to Se-yoon and Na-Ra.
The next day, Coach Ra visits the city of Jeonnam. He orders the two rivals to win the mixed doubles finals. Se-yoon is a little embarrassed, but she's determined. She meets her idol in the midst of adversity. Se-yoon and Han-sol become close friends. The Racket Boys win the doubles and triples matches. Han-sol and Yoon-dam are the next two teams to play in the finals.
However, Se-yoon has a different perspective. He realizes that he can have both. He is a gold medalist, and he wants to prove it. He calls Se-yoon's request for a picture annoying, but he quickly puts his arm around her shoulder and laughs at the other kids waiting for their pictures. In the end, they decide to get the picture.
Despite the flaws in the storyline, Racket Boys is a worthwhile drama. While it doesn't have the most impressive plot lines, it has some heartwarming stories and a cast of lovable characters. Throughout the series, the characters are endearing and lovable, and it contains many touching lessons on life. They are a great couple. The drama won't be as popular if it wasn't so much about the characters.
Hyeon-jong
If you're interested in a new Korean drama, you should check out Racket Boys, a 16-episode coming-of-age drama that will premiere on SBS TV in May 2021 and will be available on Netflix as well. It's a fun, easy-to-follow series about a group of teenage badminton players who are determined to make the Junior National Team.
The series explores various forms of parental love and sacrifice. Yoon-dam's parents proudly display Yoon-dam's photo at their bakery, while Woo-chan's military father secretly watches team matches. But the most poignant moments of parental love are the villagers' heartwarming displays of affection. These characters are also very human and we can empathize with them.
In his first match, Hyeon-jong meets the leader of Jeonnam's sports council. He explains to him that the sports council will not fund the team if it doesn't improve their performance. However, he soon finds out that the team is missing one member. The youngest member of the team, Lee Yong-tae, is a top player but addicted to social media. Se-yoon also makes an effort to impress his mother by inviting her to watch the match. But bad weather delays the flight and they are unable to get back home in time for the NJSF.
The boys are not the only ones with dreams of the Sweet Potato competition. Jonathan, a Black exchange student, comes to Korea with the goal of following the K-pop group GFriend, which he has not been doing. He leaves the team to attend GFriend's concert. In the meantime, Hyeon-jong asks Hae-kang to join his team, a boy who used to be an exceptional badminton player but suddenly disappeared.
